City 6 is composed of Drexel University, LaSalle University, Saint Joseph's University, Temple University, University of Pennsylvania and Villanova University.

The City 6 Extramural Classic was founded in 1986 by representatives from Temple University and Saint Joseph's University as a way to encourage recreational sports and social interaction among the city universities.  The first championship tournament was held that fall at the University of Penn’s Franklin Field.

Today, tournaments are held at venues throughout the area, including some of the best collegiate facilities in the city such as the Palestra, Villanova Football Stadium and Saint Joseph's Alumni Hall! Since 1986, over 600 teams have represented their schools in over 200 tournaments.  The Extramural Classic has been a frequent focus at regional and national conferences and serves as a model for other programs and institutions.

The Philadelphia CITY 6 Extramural Classic is the nation's only association of college recreation departments offering undergraduate intramural teams from participating schools an opportunity to compete for a city championship each year!  City championships are organized for flag football, volleyball, basketball and softball.

City 6 Symposium

On Wednesday, May 23rd, the City 6 schools met for the first annual City 6 Symposium. The day included intramural, wellness, facilities, and instructional class roundtables, a "what's new in recreation" group discussion, and various special presentations. Vince Papali, formerly from the Philadelphia Eagles and real life star of the Disney movie, "Invincible" was the keynote speaker. Ultimately, the entire day was an invaluable sharing of ideas. Notes from the roundtables can be viewed below.
